Conservation: Pundamilia igneopinnis is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (EN) endangered (2010). At present, Pundamilia igneopinnis populations seem stable in the wild but due to the ongoing enviromental turmoil in Lake Victoria, cichlids populations there can be considered fragile.
