Original description as Aulonocara koningsi:

ZooBank:573CACFC-8020-4482-A28F-9B51EA2E28F7.

  • Tawil, Patrick. 2003. "Aulonocara koningsi n. sp., un cichlidé nouveau du Lac Malawi apparenté à Aulonocara stuartgranti (Pisces: Teleostei: Cichlidae)". L'an Cichlidé. vol. 3; pp 89-98 (crc00106)

Conservation: Aulonocara koningsi is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. I don't think there is any threat to this species. Although it lives on the sand there are too many rocks around the Mbenji islands for fishermen to wipe out sand-dwelling cichlids.
