- Kullander, Sven. 1995. "Three new cichlid species from southern Amazonia: Aequidens gerciliae, A. epae and A. michaeli". Ichthyological Explorations of Freshwaters. 149-170 (crc00099)
Conservation: Aequidens epae is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Aequidens epae occurs in lentic environments and small lakes, which indicates that it can be tolerant of the effects caused by the programmed construction of hydroelectric dams in Rio Tapajós (ICMBio, 2022).
