Conservation: Dimidiochromis kiwinge is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). Dimidiochromis kiwinge is a very common cichlid and is nowhere threatened with extinction. It is a favorite with fishermen as they taste excellent but they need to be caught on hook and line because they are too fast for a net.
