Conservation: Petrotilapia sp. 'yellow chin' is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. Petrotilapia sp. 'yellow chin' is not listed in the IUCN red list, but given the size of individuals in imports (which are relatively sparse by comparison with smaller, more popular species), it is probably still secure, though larger specimens are certainly vulnerable to over-fishing either for human consumption, or for the aquarium trade, especially since they are found in very shallow water.
