Original description as Protomelas krampus:

Conservation: Hemitaeniochromis krampus is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. It is a rather rare species and is not targeted by the ornamental fish trade, but the fact that it hunts in the water column it could be vulnerable to the nets of utaka fishermen. On the other hand, since H. krampus is mostly found in intermediate habitats not too many fishermen will risk their nets getting caught in the few rocks that occur in such habitats.
