Conservation: Tropheus sp. 'mpimbwe' is not evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species. Both cape Mpimbwe populations (orange and yellow throat) are forms with geographically restricted ranges which may be sensitive to overfishing. This is not yet the case, as this species has not yet focused the same interest as, for example, "kaiser" Tropheus, but in case this would happen, we could well see a marked decrease in bigger specimens amongst imports.
