Conservation: Tropheops sp. 'masimbwe' is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2018). Tropheops sp. 'masimbwe' is rarely collected for the ornamental fish trade, but sometimes is caught in beach seines of subsistence fishermen. Subsistence fishing using of seines is a potential threat for small cichlid species (Konings & Kazembe, 2018).
