  • Konings, Ad. 1993. "A revision of the genus Sciaenochromis Eccles & Trewavas, 1989 (Pisces, Cichlidae)". The Cichlids Yearbooks. v. 3, pp. 28-36 (crc00848) (abstract)

Conservation: Sciaenochromis fryeri is evaluated by the international union for the conservation of nature in the iucn red list of threatened species as (LC) least concern (2006). Although Sciaenochromis fryeri has been a favorite Malawi cichlid for over 40 years it will be almost impossible to overfish this species as it lives solitary and mostly between rocks.
