Crenicichla edithae is synonymized with C. lepidota. Crenicichla scottii is redescribed. Crenicichla gaucho, new species, is endemic to the middle Uruguai and similar to C. scottii but with an irregular spot pattern on the sides of males. Crenicichla prenda, new species, is endemic to the upper Uruguai and diagnosed by its male colour pattern which is like the female pattern in C. gaucho. Crenicichla scottii, C. gaucho and C. prenda, form a species group, the scottii group, which is distinguished from the Amazonian C. reticulata group. Crenicichla celidochilus, previously known only from a middle Uruguai tributary, is reported from the uppermost Uruguai "
