" Known widely as the marakely (black fish) in its native Madagascar, P. sp. ‘fony’ and its close relatives, whether they be true species or geographic variants, inhabit very diverse ecosystems: swampy lowlands, brackish estuaries, and mountain lakes and streams. They will tolerate a wide range of pH and temperatures. Some even inhabit and breed in slightly brackish water "
