Ilala Gap
In the early days of service the m.v. Ilala would stop at Cape Maclear and waiting passengers could see it coming on the other side of the gap between the Nankumba Peninsula (right) and Domwe Island (left) after it left Monkey Bay. They started referring to this place as the "Ilala Gap". The strait is very shallow and strewn with large boulders making passage even with a small boat dangerous; Lake Malawi [Malawi].Photo by Manuel Salazar González. (03-Nov-2008).
