Sometimes we just have to wait for the right person to log in. It may be that there's so many choices, it's hard to narrow it down without being somewhat of an expert.
Re: Tryin ID for my malawian cichlids
I have a similiar cichlid i tried to get an ID for... One thing i can tell you is that its deffinately not a protomelus taenotolis...I would guess your fish is a fryerei... One difference in mine and yours is, yours is lighter blue with more white on the top fin. if you look a few posts down you can see my post where the fish was given to me as a protomelus taenotolis species also. Your pictures are alot better than mine.
Search some pictures of fryerei and compare them.
Hope this helps a little bit.

My girlfriend told me if i get one more fish tank she is gonna leave me....She is a good woman and I am gonna miss her!

Re: Tryin ID for my malawian cichlids
It appears to be a hybrid with a Sciaenochromis fryeri and something else? possibly a Copadichromis species??
Re: Tryin ID for my malawian cichlids
Looks like a hybrid to me. Maybe a Copadichromis or Placidochromis species and Fryeri...
Re: Tryin ID for my malawian cichlids
For me looks more like Aulonocara Stuartgranti.

Definitely not A. stuartgranti. Take a look at A. Stuartgranti on this site and you will be able to see the difference.
Your fish is a hybrid. Do you know who sold you these fish? Perhaps they can take them back and exchange an actual, valid species for you to work with?

Hi Leon
Yes, the female is a hybrid, and appears to be of the same hybrid combination as the male.

Thank you for Everybody!!!!

There are also larger edible fish such as mpasa (lake salmon), vundu (catfish) and tilapia (breem). More than 500 have been recorded but it is thought there could be 1,000 different species in Lake malawi africa.
Re: Tryin ID for my malawian cichlids
