Bas, he is currently arround 6 cm.
The fish on the backround is Thorichthys meeki (Firemouth).
The tank is close to 800 L, 72 X 24 X 30.

Alex Odesit, nice looking and healthy looking to. Good choice of cichlid. Do you have him in the tank with that large Jack Dempsey? How is that working out? What is the size of you tank in gallons? Keep us posted.

Krzysiek S, He is Gorgeous. What size tank is he in? Do he have any tank mates? Are tetracanthus usually a shy cichlid? Is you shy or outgoing?

yes, Cichlidfever, he is in the same 210 g (72 x 29 x 24) with 5" male JD and several other, including Heros (not sure exactly the strain yet), Uaru, Firemouth and soon will be several Convicts and JD female (they got to be transfer soon from my other 55 g tank). I also have some Botias, Red Tail and Rainbow sharks, some barbs and Silver Dollars, Opiline and 3 Spot Gouramies, eh, almost forget about other important fish, 2 Pearsei.
You can check my other post here and see these.
Cuban is not shy at all, I see temper already, he remind me Monaguan or Loiselli cichlids I kept earlier, in his behavior. Let's put this way, no one bother him in the tank, and only he chase some other fish around, but nothing crazy yet.

*update, he is definitely not slow growing, even opposite, he shows fastest grows in 210 gallon tank. Aggressive too. He also surprise me how much he loves lettuce, I though he is strictly predator.
A little more time and I can distinguish him (her) of what kind of Tetracanthus it is, base on late post about Cuban cichlid varieties.

I'm not certain, but my guess is it will develop into a she. This is based on the bricht area arount the lateral spot. I've not seen any female without is, and no male with is - even at small size - 4 cm / 1.5 inch.

However, many people know a lot more about these fishes than I do, so please comments, gentlemen / ladies

Bas, thanks for reply. I am ok with either sex for this fish.
I saw picture of fully grown females and they are just as beautiful as male, male just more bulky.
I would also like to hear other people comments.
btw, Pal how is your fry doing it?

What you planning to do with fry when it get older?
Is it any way you can sell them? It's going to be allot of fish.
Can you post the parents pictures? How big they are, and what the tank size, who is their tankmates?

nice, thanks for the picture root. I am surprise they breed at such a small size, I have heard some confusing info about the maximum size they attend.
Most says that male stop growing at ~ 6-7", and female much smaller, but some quoted this fish to get almost up to foot.

Update on Cuban, in my eye it looks more and more of male gender(body/head shape, temp of grows and behavior), but I may be wrong. Fish around 12-13 cm.
