Paratilapia bleekeri 'small spot' Pre-spawning Behavior

Post by Jim Cumming » Fri Jul 19, 2013 2:30 am

This three year old pair of 'bleekeri' looks like they are getting ready to spawn for the first time. Another pair in this 180G have spawned three times over the last couple of years. There are two 10" males and four 7" females in there along with one pair of P. oligacanthus and two pair of P. grandidieri. Over the last few days, all three species have either spawned or are getting ready to. This "first time" (AFAIK) pair is preparing their spawning site- a secure area at one end of the tank behind a large chunk of driftwood. Here are two pics of the new pair, followed by one of the second pair.

Lovely and the dots are really nice and straight.

I live in Eastbourne - the sunniest place in Britain. That isn't really saying much...
