Vote for May meeting program!
Here's your chance to have a say in a program. Ted Judy, from Milwaukee, is speaking in May, and I've narrowed down the topic choices to these 2, as described by Ted:
The Genus Pelvicachromis
This talk is an overview of the genus Pelvicachromis. All eight species of the genus are discussed, as well as closely related fish that are yet to be scientifically described. The slide show includes the presenter’s photographs of over 20 different Pelvicachromis species/geographic variants. The captive husbandry of the fish in this genus is discussed in detail, as well as strategies for spawning them and raising the offspring.
Going Gabon!
This talk documents Ted’s 2011 fish collecting trip to Gabon, West Africa. The presentation includes photography and video from many collecting locations. Gabon is a place that is infrequently visited by traveling aquarists, and a country from which there is no commercial exportation of tropical fish. You will see many interesting species that are virtually unheard of in the hobby.
Here are further comments from Ted about both:
There are many cichlids... rare cichlids... in the Gabon talk. The Pelvicachromis talk was completely updated a few months ago, and I have permission from Anton Lamboj to talk about the probably changes that will be made to the taxonomy of that genus. Very interesting stuff, and LOTS of pictures. Most people's first reaction to the talk is that they had no idea there were so many Pelvicachromis. A look at this gallery gives a good clue: http://tedsfishroom.com/gallery/genus-pelvicachromis/

I'd like to be one of the first to hear his Gabon talk considering he just got back a few days ago. That would be excellent!

Just kidding, of course. The responce was so good that I'll probably do this again sometime, maybe with a more general questionnaire.

It's a ways away, but I am really excited for this presentation. On a broader note, I'm impressed with all of this year's speakers.
