Paretroplus nourissati spawn, a 4 year journey

Post by ciclasoman » Tue Jul 22, 2014 11:47 pm

I am happy to have a second spawn of this gorgeous fish in a fish tank. I started over 4 year ago with a group of 9 lamena and over the years the group dwindled to a pair, some fish were victims of a mated pair of Theraps wesseli, a couple were testing gravity and life outside the tank. In mid May, I was greeting to a large spawn by said pair and so I removed the eggs for artificial rearing, surprisingly the eggs hatched the next day meaning that the parents had spawn two days prior while I was away. The fry are no different from any other Paretroplus fry, they need live food for extended periods of time so pond rearing should be the easiest way to raise them. Anyhow, this is only one of few spawns outside of the French cichlid club for this species. The fry are doing rather well and a second batch is giggling on the tank bottom.
Here is an older picture of the pair

and a brief video of the fry at 4 weeks of life: ...
