Removing Shellies from Their Shells???

Post by narioredmond » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:40 pm

Hi Everyone,

Any good techniques for removing shell dwellers from escargot shells? I am having difficulties removing my lamprologus multifasciatus from their shells. I would like to sell the breeders in the group but I do not want to harm them and it is very hard to remove these little fish from the home in the escargot shell.

Let me know,
Peter

I seem to recall some people putting the shells on a grate higher up in the aquarium and the fish not liking where the shells were. I could be misremembering though.

I take a few pieces of cut PVC pipe and place them in the tank vertically and set the shell on top of it. Seems to work pretty well, they don't like the height. They usually come out within a day, however some of the more stubborn ones I have took 3 days. Pretty much any way to elevate the shells like Lisa said works.
