Male or Female

Post by Mom2BandL » Thu Apr 25, 2019 12:29 pm

Hello! This is my first post. I have an auratus that has darkened over the last month or so but I'm not sure if its a female showing dominance or a juvenile male that is maturing. Please help!

females can turn to black !
A long time ago (around 35 years... at least) I had a "male" johanni. I've looked for females for him... till I've seen him laying eggs

I'm pretty new to the Cichlid world (about 6 months) and I also have some Auratus that darkened. One is near black, which changed first and the other two are just greyish, leaving two gold. I have pics!
So 0 and 3 are the control images - 0 being juvenile and 3 being mature female (I think).
1 is the first day I noticed the colour change, about 4 months in.
2 is another, recent changeling which might be male?
4 is 1 but as she(?) is now. Sorry it's a little blurry...

I hope this helps the O.P. (as well as myself!)
