Trying to determine sex of red empress

Post by Becca06lynn » Sat Feb 16, 2019 6:04 pm

I'm still fairly new to cichlid world and I cannot catch my red empress to physically attempt to view whether I have a male or female. It is about 2 and 3/4 in long. The only color is the orange/red on the very tip of dorsal fin. It does have a non colored spotted pattern on tail fin but cannot make out any egg spots on anal fin. I want sure if the pattern I'm seeing on the tail fin has any significance. Any thoughts?

2" 3/4 is still a bit too small to be certain I reckon. Egg spots are generally less clear with the females, but they still can have them. Take a look at this picture, for example: ... thful.html
