Just wondering if anyone has any updated info on the "Ruarwe" strain of yellow labs?

Larry? Anyone?

Nick sold this group to a fellow who lives south of me, and I purchased 10 of their offspring. Kinda fun keeping mbuna again after all these years.

As far as I know it's "just" a Yellow Lab, not any different from the other varieties (except for the color). Quite easy & fun to keep, not very aggressive either. Calling them "Orange" is a bit too much I think, it's a more like a deeper shade of yellow :)

The color is in between the shade of yellow and orange.

Thanks, and yes I agree, more yellow than orange. What I was really wondering about is if anyone has any more "hands on" info on the collection location of this species, which is why I specifically gave a shout out to Larry. Most of what I have found is in French, which even being Canadian I am very weak at. lol

Good Evening

It has been a while since I posted anything on the Forum.
Just want to ad. I have a very good friend which is a
Importer of Malawian Cichlids from South Africa. He has
Labidochromis Caeruleus "Ruarwe" currently in his collection.
Imported way back in the beginning of the year 1997.
Not a lot of hard evidence out there from scholars covering
this collection point. But who do you trust then? That is the
question. The exporter?

Thanks Izak. Agreed, not much to be found on this variant, at least not in North America.

I ended up giving these to a friend who put them into his 270 gallon African display tank yesterday, and under natural light they truly are orange. Mine looked exactly like the ones shown in the link below. A completely different color than the typical Lion's Cove "yellow lab".

Beautiful L. caeruleus variant, and now another good reason to visit my friend's fish room more often. lol
