Stock plan ?

Post by Ukkeeper » Sun Jan 20, 2019 2:37 pm

Hi Guys, nopb on here, but been a fishkeeper for over 35 years. Currently tank less as I got into Day Geckos for a while - but miss my fish so they are going.

My last set up was a 600 litre Malawi tank with 3 big external Eheims.

The new plan is a 5x2x2 open topped sumped tank, open topped so I can get big plants growing out the top hopefully.
I know plants and cichlids arent great, but I like a challegne lol. Will us something like easycarbo to get the plants growing well without C02 aggro.

Anyways, I know very little about americans and thats what I want to stock with.

Still in my learning stage as to whats what with Americans...Fish Id like would be Green terror, tapajo red caps, firemouth neon and std Rams, corys/catfish....let me know your thoughts guys

Also, where can I find out about water params for these guys ? the local stores are hopeless for accurate info.

Hello Ukkeeper,

I do not think you would be happy with your stock plan, because in about a week to a month you would be only looking at one or two fish.

There are two websites I like to look at for help with cichlids. First is the cichlid room companion, https://www.cichlidae.com/ this is behind a paywall but the amount of knowledge is invaluable. Second is Seriously Fish, https://www.seriouslyfish.com/ this site has a wealth of knowledge about almost any fish and I use it alot for finding water parameters and compatibility.

Hope this helps and good luck with your stoking.
