Willem Heijns, an Extravaganza veteran from The Netherlands, has made it his mission to learn all he can about Central American cichlids. Lately, he’s been concentrating on how the various genera of the Heroini tribe, which is comprised of most Central American cichlids, are interrelated. One of his talents is making the science of cichlid systematics, based on both DNA analysis and morphological characteristics, understandable to the regular hobbyist.

Lawrence Kent, from Seattle, is an extraordinary hobbyist, and will be making his Extravaganza debut. He travels extensively to Africa and Asia for work, uses his days off to photograph wildlife and collect fish. He then consults experts to figure out exactly what it is he has caught (whenever that’s possible), and learns as much as he can about them. He has many fascinating stories about his travels and the fish he has collected, photographed, and often bred.

Steven Grant, from the UK, has been deeply involved with various families of catfish for many years. He is a regular speaker at European catfish events, and has written books and many articles for European magazines and journals. This will be his 1st US appearance.

Charley Grimes, from Indiana, is one of the most known, liked and respected hobbyists in the US. His breadth of experience and practical knowledge informs his captivating and often hilarious story-telling. If you’ve never heard Charley speak, you really should, because it’ll be the hardest you’ve ever laughed during a fish talk.

Not this year. He did promise he'd be back next year, though.
