Once upon a time in Mexico

Hi all,
I thought I would share some pictures of the last Mexico trip. Although it didn't quite work out as planned - for one Ken was missed - but we did get some interesting fish.

Hi all,

What is the black fish at the bottom of the pics on here?

It's a cyprinid, Tampichthys ipni (formerly Dionda ipni). These are males in breeding condition, usually they are not that spectacular (see female here).

Where were the different H. pantostictus collected?

Most of them were collected in the triangle roughly spanning between Tamazunchale, Molango, and Huejutla.

Can I ask where the T.maculipinnis was caught in the picture?

It was collected in a small stream between Catemaco and Acayucan along with the red "C." salvini.

No problems with the internal violence in Mexico?

I know the majority of the problems are in the Northern region, fact is we can hear the gunfire here at times from the problems.

Hey Michi, did you see A.Rostratus while in Mexico?
I am planning trip with my friends in early May, love to see Rostratus in the wild. Last time I visit Mexico we stay at Rivera Maya, and I had great time at several cenotes.

A rostratus comes from Nicaragua and Costa Rica, so they would be as exotic as any Tilapia in Mexico

If you intent to see rostratus - good choise, as no fish can compare with rostratus. But don't go looking for them in Mexico

Just check Conkel book.
Distribution: Nicaragua and Costa Rica, on the Atlantic slope. In the Great Lakes of Nic to the Rio Matina in Costa Rica.
Well, may be next trip.
BTW Bas, did your Rostratus breed once again?

Alex, you might be able to see robertsoni. That's probably the closest you can get to rostratus.
