Tomochichla Tuba pics

Post by RayQ » Wed Dec 16, 2009 11:33 pm

I managed to shoot some photos of a pair of Tuba that are rearing a batch of fry, I think it's quite a rare opportunity that I have gotten, here are a few of the results. . .

So what's your secret? I had a nice pair for a number of years, couldn't spawn them and then donated the pair to Steinhart Aquarium. They wouldnt even spawn in a 5000 gallon tank. Congrats!
Current stock-2 F1 Breeding pairs of Chuco Micropthalmus, F1 Theraps Lentiginosum (2 breeding pairs), Theraps Coeruleus (1 breeding pair), 7 5-8" F0 Ornatum "Rio Choco", 2 Beani "White" and about 400 Micropthalmus fry!

haha I wish I could take credit for the husbandry, but, they are in a 180 gal tank at a friend's house, this is the second spawn in about six weeks for him, the first batch are in a grow out tank now and these will likely be pulled next week. There are actually one male and three females, it has been the largest female that spawned both times, I don't know that there is a secret  Hopefully I will have a chance to document the growth and development

Thanks a lot Rick! I have dug up some info on these ones, they were infact brought back to Winnipeg as fry, but, in 2004 rather than in 2007, the first spawn from this quartet of Tuba was in April or May of this year (2009), they have been quite a long project for a couple aquarists here in Winnipeg. Lucky for us, there are HUNDREDS of juvies locally now, so, the line should live on for some time now
