Kihnichthys Ufermani

Post by scalare1973 » Wed Jun 20, 2018 5:57 am

Hello,
I have recently got a young pair of kihnichthys Ufermanni.
These specie seems to be quit rare in the hobby.
I don't know if this has to do with impopularity of hard to come by.
And for what i have heared difficult to breed.

Thats what suprised me because my young couple spawned this week in my tank.
I saw them busy but i couldn't believe they would deliver. So I'm very happy they did aspecialy to keep them in the hobby.
Their is not much information about them to find on the internet.
And only a few films on you tube.
The batch of freeswimmers seems small can't tell how many because they are in the back if my tank under the stones and wood.
I got the advise to cach some and raise them seperate because they are so hard to come by.
Will do that next water change.
I have a few questions:
How difficult are they to raise the young? Any special things i need to do or is this similar yo more central america cichlids.
Who keeps them also or knows where to find them?
For mixing back bloodlines.

Here is a link to my couple with their young.

I have been told that there is in france a breeding couple who have about 10 young ufermanni left over from their first nest.
In belgium their is 1 couple but not yet have spawned.
And here in the Netherlands their is by my knowledge 1 hobbyist besides me who keeps ufermanni but also these have not spawned yet.

Is their nobody here on this forum who keeps these beautiful ufermannis or knows somebody who does?
it can`t be that these are the only ones in the hobby.
