My C A tank with fry

I haven't been here for a long time


My L-shaped tank is gone and I replaced it by a tank of 4.10 x 1.00 x 0.73m.

Today I shot a video of my C A tank with some fry

The color of the eyes of the intermedium is normaly blue, but in breeding dress yellow.

It's been 3 years ago since I had fry for the first time of the intermediums.


When I search on the internet not many peoples had fry of Chuco intermedium as far as I know.
We keep them as 2/3 now and a long time as 2/4.
Last year I gave a female away to a friend to complete his group.

The other species is Vieja melanurus "Laguna Sacpuy".

Gorgeous! Could you tell me please how are pair bonds among your Chuco? They tend to quarrel after spawnings or are pairs relatively stable?

Only the alpha male spawns or tries to spawn with several females.
Many times it is disturbed by a second female.

I had fry for the first time 3 years ago. Only 4 young fish survived, because I kept them in the tank.

This is the second spawn. So I had to wait 3 years for it.

I am not 100% sure, but it might be the same female as 3 years ago.

Thanks, the photo's are shot by my wife. I only shoot the video's

Before we had the melanurus, we had 4 pearsei's "Rio Usumacinta" F1 in our tank.

The intermediums were too much stress for the pearsei's and we wanted more colour in our fishtank.

In the video you can also see Astyanax mexicanus and Vieja heterospila.

The pearsei's and the intermediums joined together to catch the A. mexicanus.
We saw how they caught the mexicanus and they ate them.

In the end 6 of 20 mexicanus survived. In time they knew how to handle with these attacks.
The mexicanus took bites of the long fins of our meeki's. So we had to skip the mexicanus.

A bit of sad news...
Since today the fry is gone

Probably eaten by the other melanures couple

Yesterday I caught some fry (about 30). We will try to raise them.

A few days ago I noticed that the fry of our couple melanurus exists of 2 different species.
Probably some of the fry of intermedium mixed up with fry of melanurus.

The couple melanurus also protects the fry of the intermediums.
I left some of the fry in the tank with the couple melanurus.

Another possibility is that the fry mixed up with some fry of the meeki's, but I dont think so.
