Wow, I am stunned. I've never seen this before...

Does the mass ever rotate the other way? Is the rotation caused by an eddy at the surface? And I wonder why the mass is so buoyant? I think I had mentioned to you on facebook that I had a batch of newly free swimming Etroplus canarensis form the tightest school I had ever seen. It too tended to rotate but every which way. And it was rarely on the surface. This lasted for at least two or three days, I seem to recall. The ball would expand when they were feeding on BBS but would resume shortly thereafter.Wondered if it was due to electromagnetic influences from a small powerhead that I had in there. In fact they did spend a lot of time clustered near it. In fact, the
pic shows them on top of it.

Once the fish room like guy was on they started to go their separate ways. Shortly after I stopped recording they dispersed. My routine is to check the fry tanks after turning the lights on and I thought they were gone... I saw the mass and initially thought they were dead... There's only a small sponge filter in the tank on a low setting... They were making themselves spin!

The mass never spun in the opposite direction.
No eddy at the surface...
I think they formed the ball at night to sleep that way...
After videoing the mass dipped below the surface a few inches then started to disperse...
