vieja zonatus

Post by daveritchey » Sun Apr 27, 2014 8:37 am

hello , im new to the neighbourhood, im working on a new south american / central american cichlid aquarium and 1 of the fish ive selected is the vieja zonatus. ive read alot of different opinions on the species and its aggression levels, and quite frankly im not sure what to believe. i want to add one to the tank, his tankmates will be rainbow cichlids, chocolate cichlids ,uarus, severums, nicaraguans, and a hoplarchus psittacus. the aquarium is 400 gallons. let me know what you think. :D

ANY combination of central American and South American cichlids is a wrong choise

H psittacus need soft, acidic wat - ideally DH less than 2, ph max 6. H nicrarguensae en V zonatus need hard and alkaline wat, DH ideally 8 or more, pH 8

that will not combine

Further, their behaviour does not combine

Generally speaking, south Americans want to dominate each other, while centrals want he other to get lost. So a central in trouble will just swim away, chased by an angry Southern who wants to see a 'sorry'. And if the roles are reversed, the suthern is appologizing, while the central is not interested in applogies - get lost is his disire

Therefore, your combination just won't work
