Wow amazingly beautiful!

I'd love some photos of the pair, male and female for our website: www.Ciklid.org

Nice Photos!!

Can't find Rio Cabuya in Costa rica, only in panama? Do you have longitude latitude for the river?

I collected there. It's on the Nicoya Peninsula in the Northwest part of the country. It runs through the Lomas Barbudol Preserve and Research Station, roughly 10°30′37″N 85°22′28″W, so unfortunately, you really can't collect there unless you have permits. I wouldn't be surprised if the ones you have are descendants from a few of the pairs I was working with. I got them from a grad student doing behavioral research from fish he caught there at UCLA who told me about the spot and then collected some fish tissues there myself for my research. I spawned them in the lab I was at in Sacramento and started sending them throughout the USA. I'm really happy other people enjoy them as much as I do.

They are great fish. I find all the Nicoya convicts to be quite different then other A. siquia. They get much larger (6" not uncommon) and more robust with pretty amazing nuchal humps. Also, they are solid gold-yellow, and even males get this amazing color. The links are to pics of one of my wild pairs as well as to video (unfortunately poor quality) of a pair in the wild defending fry.
