Thorichthys sp. La Libertad

Post by Mark Smith » Fri Sep 06, 2013 7:43 pm

Might anyone have any notions of Thorichthys sp. La Libertad. It was an undescribed? species found by Stan Sung many years ago while collecting in Central America. Sorry, I cannot even begin to say what country or what river system he found it in. I do remember Stan's image: typical Thorichthys body form, but noticeably deeper bodied, with a very steeply sloping nape to snount angle. Entire body was a light greenish silvery, as well as fins, if memory serve me correctly.

I don't know. I've seen T. affinis in La Libertad (Peten), T. helleri in La libertad (Chiapas) and T. aureus in La Libertad (Izabal) but are all different from yours.

Thanks Enrico. Perhaps this bland specimen that Stan caught was an aberrant morph of one of the three species you mentioned?

May be. For aberrant morph in 2010 I see a blue meeki in cenote escondido. You can looking for aureus population from belize or rio motagua, or thori from coatzacoalcos basin. La lIbertad is in Honduras too near Comayagua but I don't know if have thori. Another La Libertad is in El Salvador but on pacific slope, surely no thori.

Ciao Enrico

If I can get a hold of Stan and perhaps get him to let me copy is image of this cichlid, I will try to post it here.
