Hi everyone. We have a situation vacant here at Bolton, I'll simply post the notification as it has been published elsewhere and on the MBC website.

Scale: Scale 3/4
Job Type: Full Time / Permanent

Terms & Special Conditions: Practical Experience of Aquarium husbandry practices.

Description: Bolton Museum's Aquarium is looking for an enthusiastic Aquarist. Your primary duties will be to maintain high levels of husbandry and welfare standards within the Aquarium.

You will work directly with the Aquarium Development Officer as part of a team to promote the Aquarium and continually look for ways to develop the standards and the service for the public.


Applicants must have practical experience of aquarium husbandry practices and be willing to handle snakes. There will be a requirement to climb in and out of fish tanks and other confined spaces, and you must be able to tolerate high humidity.

You will be required to work 35 hours per week, plus 2 hours Saturday and Sunday every other week.

Yes, it's true, I am actually setting up a fundamentalist chapel where handling of serpents and speaking in tongues will be mandatory.
Any mention of evolution will result in you being cast into a pit of Piranhas, and we will have no more mention of Cichlid biogeography and vicariance, as we all know the world is only 5000 years old, or some such nonsense.

I know of a few chapels like that one in West Virginia. The snakes are ok, but stay away from the kool-aid.

Are you considering applications from the states?

As far as I am aware applications from anyone with the required qualities will be considered. There is a finite limit to the relocation expenses that are allowed though, I believe.
