The Creation Of Blood Parrot Cichlids (Pure Cruelty)

Post by smitty » Mon Jan 04, 2016 6:50 pm

I was doing some reading and stumbled across this and it reignited the thought of this fish. I was wondering if this fish could talk what would it say to mankind.

#5. Blood Parrot Cichlids
The Aquarium Wiki
Apparently "the rainbow" tastes like high tide.

Developed in Taiwan specifically for the demanding 1980s pet market, which, much like the 1980s music market, valued nothing so much as ostentatious colors and genetic abominations, blood parrot cichlids are an unfortunate breed. They possess a slew of abnormalities, like a deformed mouth that interferes with chewing food, a malformed spine and swim bladder disorders. But so what if your fish can't eat, swim or exist properly -- it looks like somebody spilled a pack of Skittles in the aquarium! And as if urinating right down the helix of DNA itself wasn't enough, the fish are also routinely tattooed with special messages:

Modern Pet Centre
Where's the one that hearts NY?

And yes, those lips are tattooed to look like fish lipstick. Which really just goes to show: You can teach somebody how to meddle with the very structure of life itself, but there's just no teachingclass.

IMO yes, definitely. It's wrong to create an animal that will end up suffering.

What I have never wrapped my mind around is that people can be so oblivious that many and I mean many of them can not even close their mouths. Let alone how organs are probably pressing against each other with that deformed body.

You know what's even worse? I googled "parrot cichlid" in hopes if getting some quick info at my lfs, they have actual parrot cichlids and all that came up was stupid blood parrot pages. I was pretty annoyed. Luckily Latin still gets your there. Not.. Bloodius goofius...

Me either. But sadly a lot of people don't see fish as something that feels pain and suffering.

I never understood the appeal of the blood parrot though. Not the most attractive fish In my opinion.

Now that is definitely hitting the nail on the head. I never thought it was a nice looking fish. Matter of fact if a JD or any other fish was born like that we would euthanize it.

Yeah most people cull. I never had any deformed fish make it. Most got eaten in a community tank. I had HRPs with tiny little heads and bigger body. This reminds me of blood parrots.
