Transporting

Post by Marquis48 » Mon Jul 22, 2019 1:17 pm

New cichlid owner here and I need some help! I have 13 Malawi cichlidsin a 65 gallon tank and I am relocating 9 hrs to another state and I need to know how to transport them and keep them healthy until I can re-establish my tank at my new home! My problem is i will have to spend the night in a hotel before I can set up the tank again! This is all new territory that I am unfamiliar with and I have a 13 year old who refuses to part with them!

Probably the best method would to use Kordon (or equivalent) 'breather bags'. Bag each fish separately. Place the bags in a cooler, making sure that each bag is separate from its neighbor so they don't touch (use towels - or as I do, nylon counted cross stitch mesh). Keep cooler in an air conditioned car and room while traveling. Oh, and don't feed them for 3 days prior to bagging. Fish can live for a week in properly bagged breather bags.
