Help me identify this SA/CA cichlid

Post by JeremyD » Sat Jul 03, 2004 6:32 pm

I got these from a friend of mine who took down his setup. There are convicts and I believe a blue acara or two. I could not however, figure the identity of these guys. Help me out here....

Hi Jeremy,

I'm not quite sure but I guess there're some Herotilapia multispinosa in the tank.

Greetings, Michi

I see the resemblence to Herotilapia multispinosa, but aren't the vertical stripes on the back end odd for that species? Could these be a hybrid?

Yup. They've already been identified. Thanks to everyone for their help.

They are most certainly not a hybrid. From my reading, these guys can very a great deal in coloration and pattern. I have seen some pictures that differ greatly, and some that look just like these guys. The drab coloring they have is probably from being chased by the cons all day! :P
