Petrochromis & Tropheus Hybridizing

Post by markh » Wed Sep 26, 2012 8:12 am

Hello Fellow Fish Keepers,
I think I already know the answer but I'm going to ask anyway. If I place both Petrochromis and Tropheus in the same tank will they breed with each other? I'm not a fan of hybrid fish, if there is a chance I won't keep them together. I think the fish will be able to exist with each other without cross breeding but I want to be sure. Thanks for any and all your help.

The succes of keeping them together depends on the color of both species but I have never had this issue while keeping Tropheus with Petrochromis in the same tank. However I have never kept Petrochromis and Tropheus with the same colors for a long time due to the agression between the two species.
I have kept several single species and groups of Petrochromis with Tropheus on occasion and never had any problems.
