I just read this abstract and thought it would be interesting to post the link here:

Re: Mass extinctions
Not a surprise for me.
How many species will still exist in the end of this century ?
Unfortunatly I think there's nothing to do.
It's too late.........

Re: Mass extinctions
Yes, it is sad to think the world wont give a damn if we humans get extinct in the process. The world, given the conditions, will recover, new species will populate the earth and one will study us in the future like we do study the dinosaurs. We wont be of their liking I presume...

Re: Mass extinctions
As sad as it may be nature maintains a balance and she shows no mercy. If we are on the cusp of a true mass
extinction then our ability to evolve will truly be tested. Though I personally question if we can evolve in the area that
means the most, our view of ourselves and the world around us.

Re: Mass extinctions
Those scienbtists will have a few hard nuts to crack: How those Tilapia-descendants ever came into America, for instance
I don't know, however, whether the doom scenario (all species die, so we will die too) will really happen. I'm not claiming no mass extinctin is going on, but be honest, it would be a shame if the pipa toad (Pipa pipa) would vanish from the earth, but I don't see any relation between this sorry fect and human survival
Still, no reason to kill the species thou

Re: Mass extinctions
All i can do is shake my head and think how important it is that we have Species Survival/Maintenance Programs. Unfortunately, thats about all we can do.
