Impeller Axle for Eheim 2217 Canister Filter

Post by giorgian00 » Mon Dec 19, 2016 8:15 am

Hi all,

I have two Eheim 2217 canister filters and for the second time one of the impeller axles has broken/worn out. I hate to keep paying $10 each for a small ceramic stick. Does anyone have a source for buying these sticks elsewhere? They have a diameter of around 3/16".

Thanks.

Joe

Try a stainless steel one like in the Rena XP series of canister filters.

Not sure if they are the same length or same diameter ?

Does any one know ?

The Eheim 2217 ceramic impeller shaft is 0.117 diameter x 3.4375 long. The diameter was measure with a micrometer and the length with a rigid steel ruler.

I initially broke a couple of the shafts during maintenance but have learned to be more careful when removing them from the pump head and putting them in a safe place when cleaning the filter. I have not found a good replacement for the OEM part but you may be able to find them cheaper online somewhere.

Thanks. I had always thought they were plastic rather than ceramic. I found a new one for less than $10 so I will be a lot more careful with them now.

Yes, ceramic is hard but brittle so it doesn't bend well and definitely fractures when dropped on a hard surface such as my basement floor. :( I've learned to gently pull it out of the impeller well, wipe off any debris and put it in a safe place while cleaning the rest of the filter.

Exactly, I have 2 Eheims and have to be very careful, not so much with my 6 Rena XP filters ;)
