setting up a new 90 gallon tank, I plan on putting about 20 peacocks in there, will a fluval fx6 be enough filtration for it or will I need an additional filter?

Yes an FX6 will be plenty of filtration for a 90 gal. with 20ish peacocks. One thing that you may want to add is an airstone to add some more oxygen into the tank, the one problem with an FX6 in my opinion is that they do not create a lot of surface agitation. So with having a large number of cichlids in the tank and airstone to add some more agitation may be something you would like to add.
