2016 Grant Winners

Post by LewC » Wed Nov 23, 2016 10:51 am

The following researchers won grants from the Jim Smith Fund, announced at this year's Extravaganza.

Dr. Mark Sabaj Perez won $2000 for a project involving the identification, labeling and imaging of a collection of specimens owned by the 19th Century ichthyologist Edward Drinker Cope. Most of the work will be done by advanced students at the Ichthyology Department of The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, in Philadelpia, under the direction of Dr. Perez. The newly organized collection, along with the digital images, will be available for examination by all qualified researchers.

Dr. Ron Coleman, a Professor at the Department of Biological Sciences of California State University, Sacramento, won $500 for his continuing study of Hypsophrys nicaraguense, in Costa Rica.

The OCA congratulates Dr. Sabaj Perez and Dr. Coleman. We also thank all who've contributed to the Jim Smith Fund during the past year.
