Herichthys carpintis health problem

Post by quintus » Thu Jan 28, 2016 12:26 pm

Hi there to everyone reading this.
Although I've been keeping fish for some time, I'm new to the cichlid's.
I have a 80 gallon cycled aquarium with:
2 Herichthys carpintis (1 male 1 female),
2 Green terrors (1 male 1 female),
1 Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps
I do weekly 20% water change and an extra gravel cleaning once a week.
The amonia level is 0.
Nitrite level 0
Nitrates about between 30-40
The filter performanci is about 220 gall/hour.
The male carpintis and terror are about 5 inch long now (the females are smaller), the gibbiceps is about 10 inch long.
I had the tank for a couple of months, and there was no problem with the fish.
Then i noticed 2 small dots on the upper fin of the female carpintis.
I never had similar problem with any fish so I have no clue what it could be.
One more thing is that in the last few days the carpintis male started to behave really aggressive and was chasing her quite a lot.
The aquarium has a lot of hiding places, and 7 anubias barteri plants. The female usually hides among the leaves of the plants, but now it doesn't helps when the male starts to chase here.
I'm really worried!
Hope you can help!
Thanks

Looks like lumps in the fin? do the lumps appear on both sides of the fin? Ive seen these lumps happen in times of aggression due to injury to those spots. Usually they will go away with some time. good big water changes can also help promote healing. These are like when you get a cut and it forms a lump of scar tissue but has like a little infection underneath.
