South american cichlid mouth

Post by grabowsky » Wed Sep 30, 2015 6:23 pm

I have a south american cichlid with a tire track eel. Can you tell me what is wrong with his mouth? I have him in a 10 gallon hospital tank and been treating him with e.m . erythromycin. Seems to not be working. [IMG]http:/

Lips are swollen and extended? Notice any fuzzy growths? Any fish that its been lip locking with? Whats your current water parameters and water temp? Erythromycin is primarily gram positive. This is most likely a gram negative infection if its infected. The infection occurs from the family of bacteria known as Flexobacter. PH and hardness also effects the effectiveness of some medications, antibiotics specifically. If your PH is higher EM is not very effective. More info and might be able to help further
