Cichlid swimming vertically!!

Post by jetsjam » Thu Mar 28, 2013 6:17 pm

I have a what I believe to be a Nicaraguan cichlid, that is about 4-5 years. It's always been quite timid, but over this last month has been exhibiting poor appetite, and swimming normally, but when stationary seems to prefer being on a sharp angle, tail down and head up, and now is almost always totally vertical.

Stress, constipation, swim bladder syndrome, internal injury or parasite, are all things i've considered. Nitrite, nitrate, ammonia and PH are all within normal parameters. Although, nitrates were higher than normal, but have been brought to acceptable levels. temperature is kept between 78-80. PH is about 7.4-7.6, These all are normal parameters i believe. I rarely see him poo, as he tends to stay behind the rocks in shelter. I'm going to try epsom salts for constipation, and have tried peeled peas which he has almost no interest in.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has anything changed in the tank lately? Any new fish, new food, anything?
