There are a lot of differences between the Nigerian P. taeniatus and Cameroon population at Moliwe. The most obvios difference is that the Nigerian form has large ocelli on the top of the caudal fin that run to the edge of the fin. The Moliwe form has distinct black spots, usually many of them, on the top of the caudal fin that do not have iridescent rings around them and do not extend to the edge of the fin.
