Spawning without a cave.

Post by MJDean » Wed Oct 16, 2013 4:16 pm

I just purchased one of those Fluval 5 gallon nano tank systems and I'm trying to figure out what kind of fish to put in it. I've got quite a few Apistogramma Cacatuoides in my larger tanks and I'm thinking of placing a small pair in this nano tank. My question is will they spawn in the nano tank without any cave like structure ? If not is there a species of apisto that will spawn without a cave ? I'm thinking maybe Apistogramma Trifasciata ?

I might just scrap the whole idea and put a few small Celestial Pearl Danios in the tank.

I have to agree with Bas. A 5 gallon tank is too small for most apistos. The only one that I think might work is A. wapisana - a very small, plain and ugly species that rarely appears in the commercial trade.
