yes, he has the potential ... but he's far from responsive to questions. perhaps this will improve once he's really up and 'running'..

while perusing Don Conkels website, i note mention of Thorichthys sp. Illusiones, 'Lago de Illusiones'. i can find no notation of this species in Google and e:mailing Conkel (twice) has brought no response. i guess he's not really interested in selling to non-commercial hobbyists despite his talking...

i'm going to offer some advice you may not like but in the long run, i think it's the only way you're going to have a successful tank. take the African cichlids back to the store and exchange them for a group of "community" non-cichlids. a thirty gallon tank is just too small in my opinion for a mix...
