Had a great time, as far as I know affinis is only found in Guatemala, the meeki ranged from bright red to pink to almost no color, I lost a bag of melanurum which I should split up or individually...

Just back from Belize, places visted were New River, Progresso Lagoon, Honey Camp Lagoon, Doubloon Lagoon and Crooked Tree, fish brought back/attempted were V. that was the first cichlid I collected, i found them not easy to sex....easier to spawn

Thanks for the info, where I collected, it was sandy and shallow bottom (6' or less)with plants, these fish were the most common cichlid species along with managuense, "convicts", longimanus, nicaraguense, neets, centrachus and multispinosa. I believe my male looks more like your xiloaensis than you...

I still have them the male grew to about 8 inches the female only around 5, I still go back and forth between xiloaensis and amarillo, supposedly xiloaensis doesn't get as large as amarillo, hogaboomorum isn't in nicaragua....I really hate not knowing

find out what your looking for and where they live, then get some travel books like frommers etc, that will give you an idea of the areas, hotels, transport. etc, permits I wouldn't bother even trying, just to let you know I've been on over a half dozen self made trips and always brought back a bunc...

I have "convicts" from Rio Mongo, Grenada, IIopango, Coatepeque collected by me and also "convicts from Cubayo and Calico's...., all are breeding except the pair from IIopango.. i like convicts

when i was there i caught uro's, melanurus, bocourti and spendida on hook and line, using tiny jigs and maggots, the best bait i've used in central america.......unfortunately didn't catch many fish small enough, brought back some melanurus caught those with a handnet from a pair, in oct there were ...

very nice Xiloa is a great place almost brought some managuense back, i brought back a few pairs from Apoyo a very slender managuense......they breed constantly...
