Re: Sp. "Chomba"?
Don has admitted that at least one of those fish is a hybrid in a article a few years back. Don't have the link but it basically was a Carpintis/Labridens cross from where 2 irrigation ditches met in Mexico. I don't think Don intentionally creates hybrids but some of the things I have gotten have in...

Theraps Coeruleus wigglers!
Many of you know my struggle with getting a viable spawn out of my wild pair but I pulled the rock they ALWAYS spawn on with over 100 eggs and now have a bit over 70 wigglers. Pretty exciting day for me as I know not many people in the US work with this species. Hope to have some available in the co...

Now being called Black Umbee or "Gorillus" (hobbyist name) The hobbyist that brought back 2 pairs is spawning them, pretty cool variant.

Re: Theraps Coeruleus spawn!
Well they fertilized some of the eggs but apparently I'm not very good at artificially hatching fry :?. I used a 10g treated with meth blue and an airstone but still fungus got most of the eggs..only a few hatched and they aren't doing well. Any tips? What about using an egg tumbler type device? May...

Re: PETENIA SPLENDIDA - WILD FORM F1
They start to get a nice green/gold color at around 9-10". Kind of like the pics in the books. They breed very easily as well.

Theraps Coeruleus spawn!
After losing the last 4-5 spawns due to the parents eating the eggs I decided to hatch them artificially. I pulled the big rock they spawn on everytime and put it in a 10g with Methylene Blue treatment. 24 hours later there is only one white egg and the rest appear to be fertilized. So far so good. ...

Looks like an H. "Turqiouse" aka H. Gedessi, aka H. "Poza Rica" aka H. "Altamira blue" aka you name it! Haha, Fish known by many names but no assigned 'true' scientific name yet as far as I know. Great pics!

Re: Sexing Theraps Coeruleus
2 breedings in the past 6 weeks but they ate the eggs again. I even added an extra male in there to see if that would help 'motivate' the pair male as he seems less than enthusiastic. Maybe 3rd time will be the charm.

Re: Sexing Theraps Coeruleus
Michael,
Whats' your secret? My female laid eggs recently and the male would not fertilize. They are very much a pair, they just don't seem to be on the same page at spawning time.

I've been told that Lentiginosum is much easier to spawn. Both are my favorite CA's.

Re: Sexing Theraps Coeruleus
I have a breeding pair of these fish and from your pics I'd say the last one could be female but it's hard to tell. My female hardly has any speckling and is a turqoiuse blue color throughout her body. She does have the black bar in her dorsal though. My female is about 5.5", male is around 7". At t...

Re: 'Cichlasoma' atromaculatum
I've never kept these (yet) but I'd imagine they might have the black bar in the dorsal like a festae might have. Let me know if you get bored with them lol. I'd love to add them with my cf. Ornatum and start a biotope.

Re: "Heros" ornatus
All I meant was that without solid evidence to the contrary I believe in sticking with what Rapps labelled them as. I doubt he is trying to mislead anyone and has the most current experience with this fish. Until more recent info is out there I'm sticking with cf. Ornatum but would be just as happy ...

Re: "Heros" ornatus
So where is this going? No one really seems to have an answer with solid evidence. Until one of the big dogs speaks up I'm sticking with Ornatum. Rapps has the most experience with this fish so I'm going with him on this. For all we know this is probably the same fish.

They look like Ornatum to me but I am far from an expert on this particular fish.
