Fascinating thread, thanks to everyone who has posted. I keep some of these species in my aquaria at home and it is great to learn more about them.

Congratulations Vince, this fish is all too rarely bred. Hopefully you can distribute some of these interesting species to other hobbyists. I hope the parents behave.

Successfully breeding my very endangered Paretroplus Damii would really impress me as we are rapidly running out of hobby specimens and they are beautiful interesting cichlids.

Look like Fianarantsoa green to me; the fish known as bleekeri in the hobby but which it definately isn't. Nice looking fish though. I have about 50 of these at home.

Re: Paratilapia Bleekeri Juvenile Question

Sounds like you are doing everything right to me. The darker individuals could be males although females can become dominant and it can be hard to tell at 2 inches. At this length the smaller fish will possibly be females and larger ones males but let them grow anpther inch or so to be sure. In a ta...

Re: Tropheus tank

IMHO yes you could keep some tropheus in here but only the more peaceable species. I would go for maybe 8-10 Tropheus Dubosi or 8-10 Tropheus Moori but only those form the southwest of the lake known as rainbow Moori. I am sure others will disagree but I sucessfully maintain Tropheus in a tank of th...

Re: Vieja Synspilus please help with info

Hi there, These great cichlids grow to around 14" and yours should be not that far off at 18 months so the bad news is your tank is far too small, 6 foot or larger is much better to give them adequate space. They are tolerant of most water types but prefer hard and slightly alkaline water to breed. ...

Any ideas what these are, i bought them as labelled wild geophagus Surinamensis but i know that this is unlikley and also they have the black cheek stripe. Shope in the UK label things really badly. I think they are lovely but want to put a name to them. Thanks http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff1...
