New, and Interesting Undescribed Geophagoid?

Anyone ever see this interesting Geophagoid? Photo by Dr. Nathan Lujan taken in 2011 in Venezuela. Not sure about the exact location within Venezuela.

Interesting Lethrinops Spawning Behavior

Just wanted to share an observation I witnessed today with my Lethrinops " altus ". First off, it is probably not the true L. altus even though it was exported from the lake as such a couple of years back, but looks more like L. christyi . Be that as it may, while I was observing their spawning, in ...

Re: 5 New Gymnogeophagus Species Described

This paper should put a dent in all those Gymnogeophagus out their in Uruguay. There should still be some undescribed forms remaining.

Cryptoheros nanoluteus F1 For Sale???

I noticed on Jeff Rapps, Tangled Up In Cichlids, that he is offering the following: Cryptoheros nanoluteus ‘Rio Robalo’ 1-1.25” 8.50 or 6 @ 7.50 ea. F1 juves. of brightly colored, semi-dwarf from Bocas del Toro, Panama My question is, did someone visit this part of Panama recently and acquire wild s...

Re: Ornatum or Gephyrum

What would be splendid is if some enterprising ichthyologist(s) would traverse and collect all Mesoheros from this general region of South America, collect in all river systems, compare and contrast what is caught with the original descriptions, and hopefully uncover what is truly going on with this...

Re: Ornatum or Gephyrum

I think they may be the same species. The C. gephyrum looks larger than the other two with more yellow. It is also good to know that Kullander has confirmed that the one in the first image is actually C. gephyrum . The only image I am aware of that might possibly be a live C. ornatum is from Willem ...

Re: Crenicichla sp. Iquazu big lips (or sp. botox) has a name.

When looking at the color photos of live C. iguassuensis and C. tuka in this paper, it is hard to imagine how the authors of the 2001 paper thought that C. tuka was a polymorphic variant of C. iguassuensis. The mouth shape is completely different, among others.

Re: Crenicichla sp. Iquazu big lips (or sp. botox) has a name.

Of course, that would have been much better. He does deserve to have more than one species named after him for all the interesting/rare species he has brought into the hobby.
